Nashville Alpha 12

  • Text formatting issues were addressed on certain devices where the "other information" such as DAVS or TX hybrid wrapped to a second line and didn't fit.  The "other information" has been added to the end of the descriptive text.
  • Layout in landscape mode for "Advanced Search" was re-arranged.  Advanced Search was designed to occupy more of the screen on smaller devices such as the Motorola X phone.
  • Menus were replicated so that wishlist and inventory reporting is now also available in the menui of the individual plant results screen (the screen displaying the violet name, description and other relevant info).
  • Advanced Search menu is now in 2 places - on the main screen and on the results screen.
  • Added Plant Name field to the Advanced Search screen.
  • Image aspect ratio is now retained when initially displaying a plant image. Previously it was partially zoomed.  The result is a smaller initial image but pinch zoom is always available to resize to taste.

Nashville Alpha 9

  • This version contains the Joe Bruns excellent suggestion to put parentheses around the hybridizer name on the list of AVs.  When 2 or more violets have the same name I chose to list the hybridizer appended with the text "by:" e.g.

                    Abilene by: B.Golla
               Abilene by: Volkmann

The way the list has been created in Alpha 9 is to list the hybridizers in parentheses, improving readability e.g.
                Abilene (B. Golla)
                Abilene (Volkmann)

  • Longer descriptions were being truncated, a predominant characteristic of the Species plants.  For example, the violet S. Ionantha  has a very long description. The solution has been to make the descriptive text scrollable.
  • When switching from portrait mode to landscape mode on smaller devices such as phones with a 4 inch screen, the lower half of the advanced search panel which contained the search button was off screen and unreachable.  The screen now re-arranges itself in landscape mode.
  • When switching from portrait to landscape with a violet picture and text on the screen, the picture ended up under the text.  The picture has been moved to the right side. It still is movable and can be pinch zoomed to taste.
  • The start of an inventory app and wishlist app have been added to the results menu.  These are named "My Collection" and "My Wish List" respectively.
  • The alias names are now displayed if the plant contains one.  This is a characteristic of many of the species plants.
  • Many stability improvements were added to improve reliability.

Nashville Alpha 8

This version fixes an issue where selecting one of the species African Violets sometimes caused the App to crash.

Currently being worked on is name resolution for the various species and their clones.  The app currently does not identify differences between or among various species clones with the same name.  A future update will include the alt name in the descriptive text.

Nashville Alpha 6

This version of the App contains a number of user improvements and fixes.
  • When "drilling down" alphabetically, after selecting an AV to view, returning will take you to where you left off in the list without resetting the list to the top.  A long hold of the Search button will clear the  search text and return to the list beginning.
  • Certain terms in a Search would cause a crash, this has been resolved.
  • Overall stability has been improved.  Recent intermittent crashes were traced to oddball characters in the SQL database.
  • No changes were made to "Advanced Search" yet.

Nashville Alpha 5

This is the fifth Alpha release of the Nashville App for accessing the AVSA First Class database maintained by Joe Bruns.
Version 5 changes:
- Changed results display so long hybridizer names no longer overlay the registration number.
- Allowed 2 lines for the Violet name to accomodate longer names that wrap to the second line .
